Within HCI, the phrase “damage-centered research” has been used to critique scholarship that examines structures of oppression affecting marginalized communities. This paper interrogates that framing from a Black feminist perspective.
The authors argue that careful, self-reflexive research grounded in Black feminist epistemologies — research conducted with and accountable to Black communities — is distinct from damage-centered work.
