A Seat at the Table: Black Feminist Thought as a Critical Framework for Inclusive Game Design

Abstract

Games are powerful cultural artifacts, yet their design has rarely centered the perspectives of Black women.

This paper applies Black feminist thought as a critical framework for inclusive game design, demonstrating how its core tenets can guide the creation of games that affirm rather than marginalize. Through this lens, the authors reconsider who is imagined as a player and a designer.

The work contributes a foundation for design that makes room — a seat at the table — for those historically excluded from games and computing alike.
